Responsibilities
There are legal obligations when using a marriage celebrant. When you decide on your celebrant and you wish to book your wedding you will need to fill out the legal documents that are required for you to be married in Australia.
You are required to fill in a Notice of Intended Marriage form which needs to be completed and signed by both persons entering into marriage and lodged with the celebrant when booking your wedding. You will find a copy of this document under the forms section.
Legally the marriage can take place no earlier than one month and one day after receipt by the marriage celebrant of the Notice of Intended Marriage from the couple. This notice is valid for 18th months so your wedding can be within the one month and one day period but must fall within the eighteen month period.
During the wedding service there are legal wording requirements that must be fulfilled by the celebrant. You are advised of the legal wording on at your initial appointment.
There is also a legal requirement for couples to recite a legal vow. Some legal wording must be included in your vows and this will be discussed and explained to you on your initial appointment. Vows can be written by both of you however there are many sample vows that I can provide you with.
You need to provide documents for your identity. These are listed on documents required.

The brochure, Happily Ever Before and After is distributed by the Attorney General's Department. You will receive this brochure on booking your wedding.
